Catton Hall Cancelled
British Mini Day Catton Hall Cancelled

After 16 years and organising over 50 Mini events it is with major regret that the British Mini Club have no choice but to cancel Sundays (September 7th) British Mini Day at Catton Hall.
After a site meeting at the venue today (Friday) it would be totally impossible to go ahead with the show. Both the show ground and car parks are under water. With a weather forecast of severe heavy rain for today, Saturday and Sunday we feel it is in the best interests of everyone that we cancel the event.

We know many of you have been looking forward to the event with it being a new venue etc but we are afraid it is out of our hands. We would like to thank everyone who has contacted us with there support and understanding and kind offers of help. We very much appreciate this. Thank you.

We will endeavour to contact as many exhibitors as we can, but we may be unable to contact everyone. We would appreciate it very much if you could all spread the word as well.

The BMC show team are deeply disapointed that we have had to make this decision, and we can only apologise wholeheartedly if this has caused inconvenience and look forward to seeing you at our planned events in 2009.

We will in due course be inviting all Premier Class entrants to take part in the Premier Class at British Mini Fair in January 2009 (date to be confirmed)

Mini Regards

Advice to all mini owners thinking of using Geronimo Cages

Back in January i brought one of there six point cages, i paid for it by paypal so we thought i would have no worries...

5 weeks later the cage arrived all packaged up ready to fit, i had to wait a few days for help to fit it as i didn't want to catch the car, then the fun began!

In short the cage will not fit without being modified, which is not what it says on Geronimo cages website!

I emailed them with the mail below:

Subject: Roll Cage Quality and Fitment

Good Evening Andy

My other half Sonia Riley brought one of your standard cages back in January 2008 and received it last week.

Couple of major points really,

Fitment: There is no way the cage as it has been built will fit a standard mini saloon car without some major modification, I have included some pictures:
With the front hoop in place and following the windscreen pillar so the connecting bars run parallel I assume this is correct?
Rear cage fitted so the floor bars touch the floor inside the rear bins, fitted as far back as it goes, the rear brace bars NEARLY come close to fitting onto the rear wheel arch but roof bars are miles too long
Rear cage fitted so the roof bars NEARLY fit, the floor bars come no where near touching the floor, however the rear brace bars would fit to the wheel arch
Quality: I have to rate your welding skills as poor to mediocre at best with your finished article looking rushed and poorly finished, the cage we have received is no where near ready for paint and will take some time to grind back your messy and poor welds to make this look like a professional job, not something made in a garden shed!

Where do we go from here,

We ordered a professionally built roll cage that takes aprox 30minutes to fit, Details below are direct from your website http://www.geronimocages.co.uk/id15.html

STANDARD SIX POINT CAGE

Our standard six point cage made from 33.7mm CHS tube. These cages can be either bolted or welded in. The roof bars are connected to the front and rear hoops via slide in tube joints. For fitting simply drill through and insert bolt or weld around the seam. Very easy to fit, takes approx 30 minutes. Arrives ready for paint.

DEAL PRICE - 150.00 GBP
This is not what we have received!

This is a formal request to provide us with a Professionally Built Roll cage that will fit without modification in aprox 30mins or our money back, obviously collection and re-delivery will be at your expense as this is no fault of us as the consumer

This email address is checked 10 times a day so feel free to respond or you can call me on 07725 646132

I can see no reason why this matter should take more than 7 days to resolve

Regards

Darren Newton

Since then we have had communication back, and they have not offered a replacement (i dont think they do a cage that fits!) however they did offer a refund if we return the cage to them at our cost.

Now this didn't seem right to me, as a consumer if you are supplied with something that is not fit for purpose or as described it is the trader responsibility to cover any costs, this includes return postage. I further had this confirmed by Trading Standards!

I then called Geronimo Cages back to explain this and i was told that they do not care what the sales of goods act says, they are not going to cover the cost, they then promptly hung up.

Does this sound like a trader you wish to deal with?

ATT all users, MiniDirectory as we know it is changing!!! PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 20 July 2008 20:06

The MiniDirectoryIts true guys, we are having a total shake up of the club and the people who run it, there roles and the people who run the forums.

First off, due to rising costs and the fact i am no longer funding Mindirectory out of my own pocket we have had to look towards finding a main sponsor for the club. This has happened and we now for the for the near future at least have a stable club with 75% of running costs covered.(more very soon)

The long timers will have noticed that MD which was once set up as a group of clubs (it still is but) has now got its own core "members". These people treat MD as a club in its own right, which it is. We are now taking steps to make sure that MD is now run as a club in its own right and not a part or group of something else

How do you take part, well it has been talked about in the past and half done before we are looking for people to donate towards running the club, we have already started putting extra features in like the new "club Sponsors" lounge. More on this soon! However we will be looking for around £10 per year to gain all the extra features, membership status and free sticker!. Also this will give you first dibs on any events or club stand as well as other stuff

For those of you who have never seen behind the scenes at MD the moderators and admins have had a private area called "executive lounge" well with the shake up, i am closing down this section of the site, this is going to be replaced with 2 boards, one for moderators chat (any grade) and one for the Comitee to leave notes about running the club.

New User Groups coming

Registered User = Normal User
Club Sponsor = a user that has dontated to running Md, this person is allowed a greater say on how the club is run and is to have first dibs on club stands and events
Club Comitee = Formally Known as Club admins, these people are the people that run the club, however depending on user will depend on forum control

Moderator (local and global) = These are the people that will run the forum, this is different from running the club, there will prob be a mix of comitee and sponsors in this group

There is also going to be a shake up of team members, mainly with who has permissions

So there you have it, over the next few weeks you will see lots of change around here, we are also looking for keen members to come on board with running the club and the forums.
